The only way to convince ourselves that something bad is something good is to lie to ourselves – to delude ourselves, as Burke says.
We know destroying our economy over a virus with a 99.676% recovery rate is insane, yet we (collectively) bought into the lie peddled to us, made it our own, and deluded ourselves.
We told ourselves it was for our safety.
We know imprisoning elderly people inside their care homes and preventing anyone from visiting them is inhuman, yet we (collectively) bought into the lie peddled to us, made it our own, and deluded ourselves.
We told ourselves it was for their safety.
We abandoned our humanity under the delusion that dividing our society and pitting one side against the other would keep us safe.
We succeeded only in destroying our families, our society and our humanity so we could delude ourselves into feeling morally superior to “The Others.”
We jumped for joy when an unelected and unaccountable government bureaucrat decreed masks are no longer required because we deluded ourselves into believing the previous decree held merit.
It did not.
Only by embracing gratitude for our many blessings, loving ourselves and loving others, regardless of their beliefs match ours, expressing the joy in our heart and compassion for others can we repair the terrible damage we did to ourselves and each other over the past two years.
We were told “the pandemic” killed vast numbers of people in a very short time.
If that is true, why don’t the death rate statistics show it? Why has the death rate in Canada, for example, remained almost a flat line over the past five years? Where is the spike in deaths due to COVID?
It’s a valid question, but if it makes you angry, I would sincerely ask you to search your heart to find out why that is so.
It’s just a simple fact. It requires no emotional attachment whatsoever.
An open mind is a beautiful thing because it’s willing to learn new things and change its opinion based on new information.
A closed mind, on the other hand, is a terrible and tragic thing, because it dogmatically and steadfastly sticks to its opinion no matter how many facts to the contrary pile up on top of it.
My challenge to you today is to pick one opinion you hold dearly and research the opposing side – in detail – and see if you learn anything new.
